Goodyear come on board
Goodyear's joined the Express and Star in 1967 to as sponsors of the rally. The event became the GOODYEAR EXPRESS AND STAR for one year.
For a second time the rally went into the forests of mid Wales but this time it was a full blown stage rally with 125 miles of forest roads timed to the second.
The first car started in Dolgellau, leaving northwards at 07.00 for a loop of 9 stages to return to Dolgellau at 11.30. The crews then set off on a loop of 8 stages to the South, returning at 16.10. The final leg, which included 7 stages, was a run to the finish at the Marine Hotel in Llandudno at 19.00. That was a full days rallying!
A full entry.
The event attracted a full entry of 180 cars but only 140 of them took the start. Notable non starters were Pat Moss, whose car could not be re-prepared after the recent Tulip Rally and the 1966 'Star' winner Malcolm Gibbs. The eventual winner was South Wales driver Tony Chappell, co-driven by a young Hywel Thomas in a Lotus Cortina.
The entry list was littered with the names of rallying in the sixties most of whom were there at the end.
